Computers, Printing and Internet

You can access computer, internet, and printing services at the Grimsby Public Library. Visit us during open hours to use these services.

Chromebook laptops

  • Chromebooks are small laptop computers that you can use anywhere in the library
  • There are ten available, and there is a two-hour time limit
  • You can check out a Chromebook at the library service desk

Computer lab

  • You can use our computer lab for free
  • No library card required, just login with your last name
  • There is a one-hour time limit, but that time may be extended if needed
  • Time extensions depend on how busy it is
  • There are several computers available in the computer lab, with additional ones located in the Media Lab
  • Each computer in the lab is equipped with internet access, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel

Before using the computer lab, please be aware of the following information:

  • Save all work to a USB drive or email documents to yourself before ending your session
  • All items saved on the computer will be removed from the hard drive when your session ends. This includes internet search history
  • Your computer will lock automatically after ten minutes of inactivity. It will stay locked for five more minutes, then the session will end unless activity resumes
  • If you have any problems using a computer, please ask for help at the library service desk

Printing

  • To print from the computer lab, use the print options on the document or software you are using
  • Two dialogue boxes will pop up to confirm your print job; press “ok” to both to send your item to print
  • Please approach the library service desk to pay, and a staff member will release your items to the printer
  • You can also print directly from a USB stick by plugging it into our printer for regular printing prices

Photocopying

  • We have a high quality, large bed photocopier available in black and white or colour
  • You can copy on 8.5 x 11 and 8.5 x 14 paper
  • You can also use it to scan documents to a USB stick in PDF format free of charge

Mobile Printing

Print straight from your device at home or in the library by visiting our mobile printing website (Printer ID: 107429) or by emailing your print job to the appropriate email:

Then stop by the library to pay for your printed materials. Please note: All attached documents and email content will be printed. Print jobs will stay in our system for three days, after which they will be deleted. 

Scanning

  • It is free to scan documents at the Library
  • We have two options for scanning documents and other flat items
  • You can scan directly to your USB drive using our photocopier or get higher quality, more versatile scans using our Epson V500 flatbed scanner

Use our photocopier to scan documents to a USB stick. Documents will be saved as PDFs. You can also print from your USB stick for regular printing prices. Please ask at the library service desk if you require assistance.

Use our Epson V500 flatbed scanner in the Media Lab for high quality scans of documents, photos, slides and negatives. Scanned files can be saved to a USB stick or emailed. Any files saved on the computer will be erased once the session ends. Please ask at the library service desk if you require assistance.

Wi-Fi

The library has free Wi-Fi access. Please ask at the library service desk if you need help connecting to our network.

Users of the wireless internet service are bound by the terms of Grimsby Public Library's Code of Conduct and Internet and Technology Use policy. Visit our Board and Policies page to view these policies. The Library's wireless access points are unsecured connections to the internet. The Library is not responsible for data transmitted or loss of information over the wireless network. Users should be aware that third parties may be able to obtain information about users' activities when using the wireless service to connect to the internet. The Library assumes no responsibility for the security and privacy of online transactions.

Wireless users are responsible for the protection of their devices from viruses, spyware and spam. The Library is not responsible for the safety of equipment or for laptop configurations. The Library provides basic instructions on how to connect to the network but is not able to provide technical assistance.

Kajeet Smartspots: Wi-Fi hotspots

The Kajeet SmartSpot is a portable internet hotspot that you can borrow from the library to provide free internet access to Wi-Fi enabled smartphones, tablets, and PCs. Get the most from this device by using it for basic internet searches, browsing and email.

Search "Kajeet Smartspot" in our online catalogue to place a hold, or call the library at 905-945-5142.

Borrowing information:

  • Loan period: 21 days
  • Limit per card: 1
  • Your daily limit is reset every day for 21 days
  • After the Kajeet is overdue, the SmartSpot will stop working

Internet usage

You can get 30 minutes to 8 hours of internet time a day depending on your activity. Streaming videos will eat your time up quickly, but basic internet searches, browsing websites and sending emails will use less data. You can view your device's status and data usage at kajeet.com/statusTo update your usage on a Windows computer, press F5 to refresh your page.
